Musselman is ranked fifth once again in the new WV Mat poll.  Come check out the Applemen wrestlers this weekend at home in the Musselman Duals on Friday and Saturday.

Musselman Duals This Weekend

This coming weekend the Musselman Wrestling team will be in action at the Musselman Duals at Musselman High School.  On Friday Musselman will wrestle Broad Run (VA), Winfield, Southern Garrett (MD), and Capitol.  On Saturday Musselman will wrestle Riverside, Shady Spring, Clarke County (VA), Hampshire, and Eastern View (VA)

Applemen 11th at Elite Opener

Musselman Wrestling took 11th in the Skyline Elite Opener while missing four starters from their lineup.  Kody Kernan and Bradley DeRito both took second, PJ Dolan took third, Derek Estep was fourth, and David Stas was fifth.  The quad for tomorrow night with Brentsville, Kettle Run, and Manassas Park has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.  The Applemen will return to action on December 20-21 for the Musselman Duals

Musselman ranked 5th in WV Mat Preseason AAA Team Poll

The wvmat.com preseason poll has been released and the Musselman Applemen are ranked 5th in that poll.  Huntington is ranked first, Wheeling Park is ranked second, Ripley is ranked third, Parkersburg is fourth, Musselman is fifth, Buckhannon Upshur is sixth, Washington is seventh, Parkersburg South is eighth, Point Pleasant is ninth, and Lewis County is tenth.  Other teams receiving votes were George Washington, Winfield, Cabell Midland, and Shady Spring.  The Applemen will open their season this coming Saturday at Skyline High School in Front Royal, Virginia for the Skyline Elite Opener.

Applemen To Open Season at Elite Opener at Skyline

This coming Saturday December 7th the Musselman Wrestling squad will open it's 2013-2014 campaign in the Elite Opener at Skyline High School in Front Royal, Virginia.  This tournament will be a huge test as it includes many of the top teams from Virginia.  The field will include Musselman, Robinson, Colonial Forge, Benedictine Prep, Washington, Fauquier, Great Bridge, Battlefield, Franklin County, Skyline, Millbrook and Handley.

Kernan to Wheeling Jesuit

Musselman Wrestling is proud to announce that defending state champion Kody Kernan will be attending and wrestling for coach Sean Doyle at Wheeling Jesuit University next season.

Kody Kernan (Mussleman High School, West Virginia) - 141
Kody's high school career has been fantastic while compiling a career record of 130-12. Kody is a three time state qualifier and two time placer, including a State Championship during the 2012-2013 season. Kody will certainly be looking for his 2nd state title this year. Kody is also a 3x regional champion and 2x captain. 
COACH'S COMMENT-"Kody is an individual that brings a lot to the program on a lot of levels. His work ethic and leadership skills in and out of the classroom will be a tremendous asset to our program. Kody strives to be great and we felt all along that this was a PERFECT fit for Kody and our program. We are certainly a much stronger program with the addition of Kody Kernan."

Applemen Compete at Super 32 Qualifier

Many Musselman wrestlers competed this past Saturday at the Super 32 Qualifier event at Skyline High School in Front Royal, Virginia.  Defending state champion Kody Kernan walked away with a championship in the 132 pound weight class.  Kernan bested many great wrestlers.  In the round of 16 he majored Mick Zahora of Briar Woods (VA) who was a VA AA State tournament qualifier, in the quarterfinals he beat Cody Ohlendorf of MD who was a state qualifier.  In the semifinals Kernan beat Hunter Manley of South County (VA) who took third in the VA AAA state tournament last season by a score of 9-1.  In the finals Kernan received a forfeit from Sam Martino of McDonough School (VA) who was hurt in a previous match.  Also competing were Todd Williams who went 2-2, Tyler Thomas, PJ Dolan, and Kole Kernan.  Kody Kernan will be competing in the Super 32 Challenge in Greensboro, North Carolina next month.
